Morales Homers From Both Sides In Same Inning

Oct 31, 2014 2:14 PM

Kendrys Morales homered from both sides of the plate during a nine-run sixth inning for the Angels in their 15-8 win over the Rangers on Monday night. "I'm very excited since it's not an easy thing to do," said Morales, who spoke through an interpreter. "They were good pitches, perhaps mistakes they made. I felt comfortable, and I was able to connect." He is just the third player in baseball history to accomplish the feat. Morales connected for a two-run shot as a lefty off Texas starter Roy Oswalt that put the Angels ahead 5-3. He then hit a grand slam off Robbie Ross from the right side.

Battling Fatigue, Sale's Next Start Uncertain

Sep 14, 2014 3:47 AM

The White Sox aren't sure when Chris Sale will make his next start as he battles fatigue. "I'd say it's probably fatigue and he's just tired," manager Robin Ventura said. "There's no pain or anything in there. We'll see how it sits in Minnesota and how he feels. Nothing's changed in how we treat him, we're just trying to take care of him." On Saturday, Chicago acquired Francisco Liriano from Minnesota. Sale downplayed the significance of missing his next start. "It's fine," he said. "It hurts a little bit. Just taking some time off right now, but everything's fine."

Francona Apologizes To Valentine Via Text

Sep 23, 2014 5:14 AM

Terry Francona sent a text message in apology to Bobby Valentine after he held court with members of the Red Sox on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. The former Red Sox manager, who now works as an analyst, didn't want to step on Valentine's toes. "Yes, he sent the text message," the team's current manager said. "But it wasn't necessary." Francona and the Red Sox parted ways last year after the team was eliminated from the playoffs on the final day of the regular season.

Pedroia: Red Sox Aren't Playing The Game Right

Apr 17, 2014 6:54 AM

Dustin Pedroia is upset over the way he feels the Red Sox are playing baseball right now. The second baseman had some harsh words for his teammates after Friday night's 10-3 loss to the Yankees, accusing them of going through the motions at the plate. "The first 100 games have been [lousy]. I mean, two games under .500? We're the Boston Red Sox," Pedroia said. "If anyone's thrilled about where we're at, we need to re-evaluate because I don't like losing. I know everyone else doesn't like losing. We've got to play better, man. "We've got to play good, man. That's the bottom line. We have great players, we just have to play good. That's it. We didn't. Their guys did. Late in the game they extended themselves from us. That's what great teams do. "We didn't do anything. Our at-bats later in the game were not good. Swinging early in the count. I mean, heck, if their eighth-inning guy is going to come in the game let's at least get 25, 30 pitches so maybe he can't pitch tomorrow, you know? Do something productive and we're not doing that. That's a sign of not a winning team. Those are the little things we need to do better."

Nov 22, 2014 9:24 PM

Felix Hernandez hit Ichiro Suzuki, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez with pitches on Tuesday night. The pitch that hit Rodriguez broke his hand and the Yankees third baseman will miss 6-8 weeks of action. The next night, Seattle reliever Josh Kinney followed suit by hitting Jeter again. "You know, I'm sure none of these are on purpose," announcer Suzyn Waldman said on the air, "but these are major-league pitchers and that's enough of this, Seattle."
